In Absentia Students

Accessing care

Students enrolled in the SHIP who are registered in absentia or are on a leave of absence from the university are not eligible to receive primary care medical and counseling services from Gannett. 

Those students residing in Ithaca while in absentia or on leave must obtain a referral from Gannett in order to receive in-network benefits from local providers. Please call Gannett at 607 255-5155.

Waiving or enrolling in SHIP while in absentia

New for the 2011-12 academic year...

Students reported by the university registrar as being "In Absentia" will no longer be automatically enrolled in the Student Health Insurance Plan (SHIP).

This means:

  • you do not need to complete a waiver application to opt out of SHIP.
  • you may elect to enroll in the SHIP, but you will need to contact our office for a SHIP enrollment form.

Deadlines

  • Open enrollment for Fall students ends September 30
  • Open enrollment for new entering Spring students ends February 28
