Optional Dental Plan for SHIP Members
Costs are rising for all kinds of health services, including dental care. Cornell University students and dependents who are members of the Student Health Insurance Plan may enroll in an optional dental insurance plan that has been tailored to fit their needs.
This plan, offered through First Ameritas Life Insurance Corp. of New York, provides preventive and basic coverage at a reasonable price and access to a nationwide Participating Provider Organization (PPO) of approximately 7,000 New York dental provider access points, with over 80,000 access points nationwide.

Enrollment information for Spring 2010
Eligibility:
Due to plan limitations, only students who are eligible to enroll in the SHIP at the beginning of the spring semester AND who do enroll in the SHIP may enroll in the dental plan.
- This includes students entering Cornell for the first time or returning to Cornell after being away for the fall semester.
- You must be enrolled in the SHIP to enroll in this dental plan.
- To enroll dependents (spouse, same-sex partner (SSP), children), you and they must be enrolled in the SHIP.
Effective dates for enrollment:
- January 20, 2010 – August 16, 2010
Enrollment deadline:
- Spring enrollment deadline: February 28, 2010
- Late registrants: within 30 days of registration
Brochure and application:
- Pick up a hard copy at the Office of Student Health Insurance in Collegetown.
For Fall 2009
Eligibility:
- Students who were registered at Cornell for the fall semester of 2009, even those who are enrolled in the SHIP, are not eligible to enroll in the dental plan for spring semester only. You may enroll in the plan at the beginning of the next plan year.
Effective dates for new Fall entrants:
- August 17, 2009–August 16, 2010
Enrollment deadline:
- Fall entering students: September 30, 2009
- Late registrants: within 30 days of registration
